Add your voice to My Peoples
This is your invitation to honour your peoples, the ones who shape you, move you, or hold you up. Inspired by My Peoples by Jazzy Jeff, we’re asking you to share one image that captures connection, community or memory.
It could be anything – a portrait, a gathering, a quiet moment – so long as it speaks to you. Alongside your image, tell us the story behind it in your own words.
Frequently Asked Questions
Before you share your image and story, you might want to know what we’re looking for, who can take part, and how your story will be shared. These FAQs cover the essentials, and if you’re still unsure, reach out. This space is yours.
Who can submit to My Peoples?
Anyone who identifies as a Black photographer or visual storyteller. Whether you're emerging, established, or just experimenting, this is your space.
What kind of image should I share?
Any image that captures your idea of “your peoples”. That could be a portrait, a place, a gesture, a shared moment. It doesn’t need to be perfect, it just needs to be true.
What should I write about the image?
Tell us why it matters. What memory, meaning or feeling does it carry? It can be a few words or a short paragraph, whatever helps us see what you see.
Will my image be published?
Selected images and stories will be featured on theBLKGZE and may be shared through our newsletter and socials. We’ll always credit you fully and ask permission before publishing.
Why should I take part?
Because your story matters. My Peoples is a space to honour connection, memory and meaning, through your eyes. By sharing one image and your words, you help build a living archive of how we see each other, hold each other, and remember. Your perspective adds to something bigger.
Is there a deadline to submit?
Submissions are open on a rolling basis, but the sooner you share, the sooner your work can be featured. Don’t wait.
Do I keep the rights to my submission?
Yes. You retain full ownership of your work. We only showcase submissions with permission, and always credit creators clearly and respectfully.
Am I allowed to remove my story later on?
Yes. You can ask us to remove your My Peoples story at any time. Just send an email and we’ll take it down, no explanations needed. You always have control over your story.
